Panguni Pandemonium

Panguni Uthiram will be upon us the day after, April 11th 2006. Held at The Holy Tree Sri Balasubramaniar Temple in Yishun, it is the part deux of Thaipusam that we have known to love and receive. KLKs also are delighted that there is another day in the year where we can all partake in bad fashion, good hard rockin "devotional" songs and show the world we too are good at our music. Namely the urumee melam troupes and the bongo bassists.

The Temple themselves have issued a call out to devotees in not to delay the timings of their departure and arrival back to the temple as it interferes with the guidelines provided by the Police.

Any reader who happens to be part of this said festival and would like to share photographs and videos with the KLKillahs, are most welcome to do so, as we will have no on-hand reporting this time around. My fault, my Khemistry is no good. Must study.

But, more importantly, the brainchild of SHAMIN. The KLK timetable to festivals, flashpoints and frantic ferocity.

Jan-Feb: Thaipusam

Nuff' said. The epitome of garishness, all in the name of the "Lord" no doubt.

Mar-April: Panguni

The KLKontinuation of past enmities and brush offs from Jan-Feb. Issues raised and not settled by pure violence or drunken debaucheries, will be scheduled to erupt on said date. Only difference, Tekka is transposed to Yishun. Worse part, too much jungle, too little concrete. Many a KLK is in fear of this closeness to nature. It'd be hard to conduct last rites if your body was half chewed by half assed wild boars.

Oct-Nov: Deepavalli

The months of Apr-Oct are not to be mistaken as months of non-activity, of quiet reflection but months where the focus shifts away from the temples and metallic framed structures to metal rods and interchanges/Klubs/variety shows/school shows/general walk down Tekka/and so on and so forth.

The second half of the year. New money, new clothes, new ways to celebrate. And of course, everyone knows which KLKlub to hit on the night of Deepavalli. Alas, the heavy bulging pockets need to be unburdened somewhere don't it. And why not, pursue past misunderstandings while we're at it.

And not to forget, the dear dear Indian worker population that has to get their yearly drumming and beat down at the GreaT Diwali Expo.

Dec: Christmas

The ecstasy of good mutton kurma and chicken briyani dissapears in need of some good old Chrissy cheer. Heaven forbid, Christmas is on the weekend. This means the eve, the day and the next day are ripe for the plucking. Goes without saying, that issues and arguments unsettled during the Deepavalli weekend will be raised, yet again. Hopefully for some end. Or their end.

Jan: New Year

Ah, that glorious day. Exactly a week away from Christmas. One barely has had time to sleep the liquor off when New Year arrives, promising with it a nation of partying. KLKs find this day particularly hard though, especially when the KLKlubs try to capitalize by doubling cover charges. Black Cat has an unsurpassed record sales statistic for this day of the year. Ask 7-11.

With the end of New Year's day, hopefully the tensions of the year passed on have been tied down, sorted out and nullified.

If not, who cares? There's always Thaipusam coming up next month. machi!
